Music for set dancing
Sets can be danced to any music that is set
at the right timing and tempo – reels, jigs, polkas, slides. Apart
from Irish traditional music, there is much other music that is similar
to or influenced by Irish – Scottish, Cape Breton, bluegrass, rhythm
and blues.
However, to make life easy, there are music albums / CD’s that are
recorded specifically to dance to particular sets. Most dance or ceili
bands in Ireland have recorded at least one CD, however, many of them
are often only available if you are lucky enough to dance to the band
performing live!
The best listing you will find of set dancing music is on the Set
Dancing News website under Library – www.setdancingnews.net or www.ainm-music.com or www.claddaghrecords.ie
